Gratitude Post 4: Things Happen

As the month of May draws to a close I’ve been looking back at the first 5 months of 2014. I can hardly believe that the year is nearly half over so quick.

Thus far 2014 has been a year filled with many golden nuggets of wisdom and insights. It has been filled with an inner inspiration which has caused me to branch out from my comfort zone and begin to live intentionally. Thus creating Three Key Life, movements in Honduras as well as music and public speaking.

The serendipity, the way all these things aligned reminded me of a thought I heard in college, “Everything happens for a reason.”

This month’s Gratitude Post is focused on the serendipity of all those little things in our lives that go into making the person we are today.

Alignment of Our Stars

From growing up in Salt Lake City, Utah with my Grandparents, to barely graduating high school then moving to Seattle for college and discovering music. From venturing out to California after graduating college and then to my current home in Atlanta, Georgia to further pursue my passions and purpose, things have seemed to align in “divine” ways.

Of course, everything didn’t work out exactly as I had planned, expected, or hoped for but everything was essential in the creation of who I am today.

Reflection

If you take a moment and look back through 2014, the past years, or even the course of your life, I am sure that you’ll see how each experience, even the most trivial, helped to shape you into the person you are right now.

Some of those things may have helped you propel into new dimensions of your life.

For me, things like my high school teacher taking time out of his day to pull me aside and help me learn to write better. Or my first business mentor who helped me find a way to believe in my abilities after seeing myself as broken vessel throughout my early adulthood.

For these things, I am grateful.

There are also things that help us redirect and re-examine our lives.  These are the eye-opening experiences that help us realize our humanity and also help us focus on our skills and gifts.

For me, those are things like experiencing the passing of loved ones, going through business failures and watching as people close to me struggle.

For these things, I am also grateful.

  • What are the various things in your life that have propelled forward?
  • What are some of the things that froze you in your tracks, only to realize that you are more powerful and capable than you ever imagined?

The I of Today

This gratitude post isn’t designed for any specific person or event in my life but is for the innumerable things that flow together in a way that creates life.

This gratitude post is a reminder, both to you and to myself, that all the situations, both the good and the bad, matter. For it is the good and the bad experiences that have made us into who we are today.

The being which we are today is under constant transformation.

Realizing this you will see that all the events that take place in your life today are imperative to creating the person you will be tomorrow.

Embracing the gratitude in all of this you’ll be able to consciously direct your experience towards those events, people, and opportunities that will help you become even more of who you already are.

Embracing the Serendipity

There are a few things that we can do to better embrace the “divine” alignment of the things that happen in our lives. I would like to share 3 of those things with you here:

#1- Things Happen – This is fairly obvious. Things happen to all of us, but the difference between you, me and the person across the world is the way that we see the situation that is happening. For some, they see things as a blessing, an opportunity to become more. Others will see that same event as something that debilitates and deflates them. Things don’t just happen, they happen just, as long as we allow the dust to settle.

#2 – Keep Going – If you find yourself in a difficult situation, keep moving forward. Remind yourself of the hurdles you’ve overcome in the past, regardless of the size. Always know that all you go through can be seen as a stepping stone that can take you into higher places of life if you’ll allow it.

#3 – The Importance of Today – It is imperative to recognize all the things that are taking place today are essential to transport us into the person we are supposed to be tomorrow. Embrace the serendipity of today, for all interactions are essential. Do even the smallest things with compassion and peace.

Grateful

Thank you for spending a moment of your day here on Three Key Life. I hope you are able to find a greater appreciation for all the little things in life that makes you the person you are.

Never forget that you are the captain of your ship and have the opportunity to direct your life wherever you desire.
