Compassion and the Formula for Inspiration

When life brings situations your way that makes you feel stressed, frustrated or worried I have a simple practice you can use.

This practice requires a few minutes of introspection to work effectively. If you set time aside to do this, you’ll be able to handle whatever experience you’re going through with more compassion, peace, and positivity.

The Formula for Inspiration

Close your eyes and be attentive to the breath you are breathing. Feel your heart beating within you by placing your hand on your heart. Take deep conscious breaths. Recognize you are living.

While taking deep, conscious breaths let all the thoughts flowing through your mind drift as clouds do on a warm sunny day. Do not attach to these thoughts, instead, watch these thoughts flow through your mind and remain connected to your breathing.

Remain in this state for a few minutes aware of your breath, feeling your heart beating. Feel the ground beneath you, hear the sounds around you and rest in the present moment.

From here, open your mind to all the people throughout your life who have loved, cared for, and appreciated you. This may be grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends or significant others. It matters not if they are still walking this planet or have transitioned, love transcends all barriers of space and time. Create a state within yourself where you can feel this love flowing forth from these people into your heart. Breathe it in, connect with it.

As you feel this love from others flowing into your being, bring to mind all the people throughout your life who you have loved, cared for and appreciated. This could be grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, friends or significant others. It matters not if they are here or have transitioned, just feel this love flowing from you to all these people.

By this time you should feel the love flowing into your being and love flowing out of your being. A continuous cycle. Remain here for a few moments.

Now open your mind a bit further and realize that all the love that has flowed from these people and all the love that has flowed from you is but a small reflection of the endless love that Life pours upon you each day. Love flows forth from the earth beneath you, the air you breathe, the sun that shines upon you and through each cell of your body.

Everywhere you go you are walking in this love. This includes the good times and the difficult times.

Let this awareness inspire you.

Remaining Inspired

When life goes up and down, be aware of this love. Let this recognition of the connection you have with all things propel you into a positive outlook and prosperous attitude.

Remaining inspired is an inside job. There is no greater fuel for inspiration than love.
