Learning to Be With Me Everywhere I Am

Ask any person walking through the street about the years of the past and you’ll find we share many of the same feelings, emotions, struggles and setbacks.

Often dealing with these painful experiences causes us to carry toxic thoughts of these seemingly impassable hurdles with us into the preciousness of today. Many people cannot rise above these difficult situations and seek a remedy found in prescription pills, drugs, alcohol, television and other fleeting illusions of the world.

In this post, I would like to encourage you to remember, despite what the days of yesterday may have brought your way, this moment of now can be the moment you rise above it all, finding peace, compassion and appreciation. Learning to be with yourself, your thoughts, and your day-to-day experience in a positive way.

Learning To Be With Me

As I reflect on my life, I think about loved ones who struggled with addiction, even great friends who passed away due to this destructive habit.

I look back and remember my grandparents who helped raise me, who shined so much light in my life and passed away when my family and I needed them most.

I can’t help thinking about my father who I love dearly but I didn’t have a relationship with until I was a junior in high school.

All of these setbacks, struggles and difficult situations caused me to seek relief in other areas. At first it was sports, then escape through music, cannabis and drinking.

One thing I’ve learned throughout these years is wherever I go, there I am. Regardless of the struggles or hurdles life brings towards us, it is important to learn to be with ourselves in a peaceful, compassionate and empowering way.

If you have peace within yourself, then what could steal that peace from you?

Learning To Be

There’s a powerful practice we can embrace to help us rise above the difficulties of yesterday and fully love, appreciate, and respect ourselves today.

This practice entails consciously looking back in your life at the good and the bad, realizing everything that has happened can be seen as a hurdle that keeps you stuck, or as a springboard that can catapult you into the future.

We can be the victim or victor, the choice is ours.

As human beings, we will all go through rough patches such as loved ones passing, friends changing, addictions, sickness, or financial roller coasters. The key to all this is to realize from a deep and spiritual level that despite what goes on in this human experience, we have a deeper spiritual base we can connect to. A part of us that is more than the hardships, setbacks and struggles. A part of us that, if we are aware of and connect to, can help us maneuver through these ups and downs of life.

It takes some work, but finding an endless stream of peace is possible. It all comes down to how you are choosing to use your mind.

Setbacks or Set-Ups

Your mind is your greatest asset. You control the thoughts that flow through your mind, giving them their power. These thoughts strengthen feelings and emotions which are also under your control.

Regardless of where you find yourself, I invite you to be your greatest support system by fueling your mind to think of the beauty, the splendor and the deep spiritual connection you have with all things.

What truly matters is the way you use your mind.

3 Keys To Be At Peace With Yourself

#1 – Healing The Feeling Of Worthlessness – Often, negative experiences or horrible deeds we’ve done to others and ourselves cause us to feel worthless. This causes people to seek a remedy outside of themselves. The greatest tool to heal feelings of worthlessness is to recognize that you are filled with infinite worth, for you are a piece of Creation Itself. Truly ponder this, you stand on the shoulders of countless generations. Your cells sparkle with the same Essence that fills the stars above. Your heart beats peace and your thoughts are filled with endless possibilities. If you can recognize the invaluable worth of yourself then peace, love and appreciation will follow you everywhere you go. Begin within.

#2 – Healing Guilt and Shame – We’ve all missed the mark at some point in our lives. Times where we let down another person, times where we treated someone with disrespect and times where we were extremely hard on ourselves. If you’ve messed up in the past, this does not have to become your future. Forgiveness can occur at any moment. As you move towards forgiveness, healing the self-inflicted wounds of the past, you then have the opportunity to create your future today. Guilt and shame cause people to reach for pills, develop anxiety, or head to the liquor store. The greatest potion for healing guilt and shame is found within. This potion is composed of your thoughts, choices and actions. Dwell not in the past and do not cast your vision too far in the future, instead find peace in this moment and peace will color the days ahead.

#3 – Positive Breeds Positive – As you take the steps to honor your infinite worth and heal yourself of guilt and shame, you reflect peace and positivity into our world. As you do this, it becomes important to observe the people around you. It matters not how beautiful the flower is, if it is planted in a toxic environment, the beauty cannot survive. I say this to remind you that it is imperative to be around those who support you and see the best in you; people who bring out the light in you, help you shine more abundantly and radiate your peace. However, more important than being around those who support and honor you is creating an inner world that supports, honors and loves yourself.

Inner Sanctuary

Do not wait for the world to change, the struggles of the past to disappear, or thoughts of unworthiness to cease. Instead, be willing to learn to love yourself, be willing to soar above the hurdles of yesterday and honor the beauty of you.

This is done thought by thought, choice by choice, action by action.

Build an inner sanctuary fit for a king or queen, for this is what you are.
